03.18.09 - That's a Wrap!
After five days of production, and countless days and months of pre-production, principle photography of "Respiración" has wrapped!
Thank you to everyone who helped on the cast and crew, and to the generous donors who made this project possible.
01.16.09 - The "Teaser"
This last week has been incredibly productive. Thank you to everyone who has helped so far. We met with many talented actors during our casting session in LA and a couple of them were kind enough to join my cinematographer, Matthew Troy, and I to shoot a short teaser for "Respiración" - follow the link here to see what we pulled together.
The teaser features the talent of Yvette Yates and Eddie Martinez.

Yesterday the New York Times published an editorial regarding the killing of Marcelo Lucero, an Ecuadorean immigrant living on Long Island.
"From a shocking crime — an assault by a gang of boys accused of making a hobby of hunting Latinos — came a chance for a stricken, divided community to bind old wounds and to bury anger. Instead, the moment is collapsing into the same old shouting.
...
The silence that echoes most painfully is that of the Latino victims of these and other hidden crimes. Mr. Lucero’s death has set loose a flood of stories of abuse and harassment. "
The full article can be read here.
What is most terrifying is the criminal stigma that undocumented workers live with. In the five years pre-ceding this crime Suffolk county has reported a 93% reduction in the number of hate related incidents directed at Latinos. These numbers mean nothing becuase most undocument workers live in fear of reporting these incidents. There is an attitude of criminalization.
The fact is that everyone who sets foot on US soil, immigrant or non-immigrant, documented or undocumented, is protected by the US Constitution.
This is the final word and the message that needs to be shared.

A lot has happened since our last update. In addition to director Brandon Roots pitching RESPIRACIÓN for a $1,600 allotment in his Advanced Production Class a great deal of interest has been generated among fellow film students.
Today also marks receipt of our first personal donation. Every little bit helps. Following acceptance of RESPIRACIÓN to Fractured Atlas' fiscal sponsorship program, expected in mid November, it will be necessary to raise $1,000 to demonstrate public interest in the project before we are permitted to apply for outside grants.
Thank you all for your support, and stay tuned for more information.

The Respiración website is finally up and running!
Currently we are applying for Fiscal sponsorship through Fractured Atlas, an organization for artists and arts organizations which will allow us to accept tax deductible donations online.
A lot is in the works for this site so please check back often for updates!
